In concrete terms, what does this mean for you?
From January1, 2025, the use of so-called “virgin” fluids with a GWP ⩾ 2500 will be prohibited. It will, however, be possible to use these fluids until 2030, if they are regenerated and/or recycled. Your equipment with a negative temperature < -50°C is not affected.
From January1, 2032, “Virgin” fluids with a GWP ⩾ 750 will be banned for plant maintenance, such as R449A and R452A. The use of these gases in regenerated and/or recycled mode will be authorized.
Maintenance of existing equipment is authorized, provided that it does not lead to an increase in system capacity, refrigerant charge or GWP of the fluid used.
Leak checks are now mandatory for equipment containing HydroFluoro-Olefins (HFO). It will be necessary to prevent leaks, repair equipment promptly and carry out periodic checks based on the fluid charge expressed in kg for HFOs. These checks must be recorded and complied with in accordance with the new regulations. ATTENTION: Fluids from your equipment must be recovered by certified personnel.
Before January1, 2030, the European Commission will review the results of this new regulation in the light of technological developments and available alternatives.
The KRYOMATECH team will be on hand to support you in this transition and help you define your needs (we are currently testing new gases on our equipment in the workshop. We’ll be sure to keep you informed of our progress).
